1st phase of the Mais Luz para a Amazônia Program will benefit 4,3 families

O MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) delivered, this Wednesday (29), the first electricity connections of the Mais Luz para a Amazônia Program in the municipalities of Marajó Island, in the state of Pará. Investments in the region, in this first stage of the program, total more than R$ 98 million. The amount will be used to serve more than 4,3 thousand families living without electricity in the cities of Bagre, Breves, Chaves, Curralinho and Melgaço.

According to the Ministry, the installation of 9 photovoltaic generation systems is also underway in the municipalities of Curralinho, Portel and Melgaço. The total cost of the first stage is R$361 million, with R$325 million coming from the Federal government.

According to the ministry, in parallel with the installation of energy in these three municipalities, new contracts will be signed with the distributor Equatorial Pará to guarantee the extension of the benefit to the 16 municipalities of the archipelago, including residences, health centers, schools, churches and other units for community use. .

More Light for the Amazon

Launched in February 2020, the Mais Luz para a Amazônia program aims to bring clean and renewable energy to the population of remote regions of the states that make up the Legal Amazon and that still do not have access to electricity, such as Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Mato Grosso, Pará, Rondônia, Tocantins and Maranhão.

The initiative foresees the use of renewable sources of electrical energy generation and the replacement of small diesel or gasoline electrical energy generators, which are currently the only source of electrical energy for many families living in these regions.

The main objective is to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and encourage the sustainable use of the Amazon rainforest's resources. The service will be offered through the installation of photovoltaic s. The program will also allocate resources to projects aimed at serving households located in remote regions of the Legal Amazon, and will prioritize the social aspect of the investment. According to the MME, the next stage of the program is already underway and will bring energy to families living in remote areas in the states of Amazonas, Maranhão and Rondônia.

New transmission line

Also this Wednesday, the Minister of Mines and Energy, Bento Albuquerque, inaugurated, in Boa Vista (RR), together with President Jair Bolsonaro, the Jaguatirica II Thermoelectric Plant and the cornerstone for the construction of the transmission line that will connect Roraima to the National Interconnected System (SIN).

The transmission line is approximately 715 km long, with 425 km in the state of Roraima and 290 km in Amazonas. According to the government, approximately 122 km of the transmission line crosses the Waimiri Atroari indigenous land, along the BR-174, a federal highway that connects the two capitals. The licensing process will have to comply with national and international regulations. “The project is expected to take 36 months to complete,” Bento Albuquerque said during the ceremony.
