Brazil and China formalize agreement for industry and companies in the solar sector

A ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association) and the IA extension (China Photovoltaic Industry Association, its acronym in English) promoted, this Thursday (11), a meeting which made the creation of an agreement that promises expand investments and growth of companies in the solar energy sector in both countries.   

O event's audience – which took place at the headquarters of FIESP (Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo), in São Paulo (SP) – also brought together representatives of the Brazilian and Chinese governments, in addition to institutions that will assist in the development of this agreement bilateralLike Apex Brasil.

O Canal Solar attended the meeting and spoke with the authorities present to bring in this report the main details of the agreement that promises to positively impact the production chain and companies in the solar sector, whether small, medium or large. 

In an exclusive interview, Rodrigo SauaiaCEO of ABSOLAR, explained that the official agreement is something that already was being orchestrated by the associations and governments of Brazil and China for some time, including a visit by the Brazilian delegation to Shanghai, China, held in 2023.

The executive said that the agreement is made up of three scopes operational strategies, being them:

  • Technical and technological: includes the development of rules and quality standards for research, manufacturing, development and innovation of new photovoltaic products and technologies, in addition to actions aimed at training professionals in the sector. 
  • Public politics: work aimed at structuring and strengthening favorable business conditions in China and Brazil in solar energy and new synergistic technologies, such as energy storage and green hydrogen. 
  • Commercial: Brazilian and Chinese companies are the main protagonists in this scope, since they will be able to seek business opportunities through cultural exchanges and more direct with suppliers, manufacturers and investors from both countries through ABSOLAR and IA.

Regarding the last topic, Sauaia highlighted that interested companies (whether or not they are associated with ABSOLAR) they just need to the entity to take part.

“Once the company s, it will have access to a series of actions and initiatives that ABSOLAR will develop for China and also for other strategic markets”, highlighted the executive.  

According to him, the actions are already being planned and will be announced in due course, as “we still have to wait for some specific steps in the Federal Government’s internal process”, he said.  

“Companies can now the ABSOLAR. We already have an initial package with information that was authorized by the Federal Government to be made available. Throughout this year, we will be releasing more and more information”, highlighted Sauaia. 

Industry promotion

Also in an exclusive interview with Canal Solar, during the event, Charles Padilla, head of investments at Apex Brazil, explained that the agreement will seek to strengthen intelligence actions to identify which are the main opportunities in the solar production chain in Brazil and also from energy storage and green hydrogen.

The executive commented that the idea is to enable platforms for promoting investments in Brazil and abroad, with a customized guidance for international investors on the Brazilian market. 

Ou seja, o The objective is also to help Chinese companies learn about the peculiarities of the national solar market, in order to encourage them to come to Brazil to produce more equipment that can be used and consumed in the country. 

“In addition, we intend to build a portfolio of investment opportunities that will be a mix of private and public sectors for companies that wish to form partnerships with international companies. From Intersolar South America (end of August this year) more information will be released”, highlighted Padilla.
