In the first 50 days of 2024, Brazil added little more than 2 GW of installed power by solar energy, according to data from ABSOLAR (Brazilian Photovoltaic Solar Energy Association).
The volume – which takes into theoma of the distributed and centralized generation segments – represents approximately 20% of the growth initially projected by the entity for the year.
According to the association's conservative projections, the source must add around 10 GW to the country in this year.
Recently, Brazil sured the mark of 39 GW of installed solar energy capacity, which equivalent to 17% of the country's electrical matrix.
According to ABSOLAR, since 2012, solar energy has brought around R$189 billion in investments to Brazil, generating 1,1 million jobs.
In addition, there are also approximately R$51 billion in revenue to the public coffers. The emission of 47,7 million tons of CO2 was also avoided in the period.
For Rodrigo Sauaia, CEO of ABSOLAR, solar energy is a lever for the country's social, economic and environmental development.
He brings as examples the use of technology in popular homes, such as My home, my life, and in buildings such as schools, hospitals, museums, among others.
“The advancement of solar energy strengthens sustainability and expands Brazil’s international protagonism, in addition to relieving family budgets and reinforcing the competitiveness of Brazilian productive sectors”, says Sauaia.
According to Ricardo Koloszuk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ABSOLAR, the greater insertion of solar energy in the Brazilian matrix is crucial for Brazil to strengthen the economy in addition to boosting the energy transition process.
“The solar source is part of this solution and a true engine for generating opportunities, new jobs and income for citizens”, he states.
Distributed generation
Brazil currently has 26,8 GW installed in solar DG. The segment has attracted, since 2012, R$134,9 billion, in addition to raising R$33,4 billion to public coffers.
The solar source represents 99,9% of the entire segment. The state of São Paulo leads the country with around 3,7 GW of power.
Centralized Generation
In the GC segment, the country currently has 12,2 GW of solar power plants in operation. In the last 12 years, the projects brought in R$54,3 billion in investments and R$18,2 billion in revenue.
