Research shows that Brazilians pay around R$12 billion per month in taxes

As reported by Canal Solar, the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) proposed increases of more than 50% in the cost of tariff flags in Brazil.

The new values should be valid for 2022 and 2023, but the proposal may still undergo changes during the public consultation, which will be open until May 4th.

This data is in line with the numbers reported in a survey carried out by HUG (Association of Large Industrial Energy Consumers).

The research showed that Brazilians pay around R$12 billion per month in taxes and subsidies on their electricity bills. There has been a 47% increase in the value of these fees and charges over the last four years.

According to Abrace, the cost of energy in Brazil, in relation to per capita income, is today the second highest in the world, behind only Colombia, among 33 countries surveyed.

These successive increases and readjustments, in addition to taxes and subsidies, show that the path towards a generation matrix less dependent on hydraulic generation is fundamental.

“There is a huge potential to be explored when we talk about clean energy sources, such as solar energy, for example, a much more economical and better alternative for the environment”, said André Cavalcanti, CEO of Elétron Energy.

Solar energy growth

Photovoltaic energy is booming in Brazil. According to data from Greener, for example, the volume of GC projects (centralized generation) is approaching the 45 GW mark.

According to the document, of the 43,7 GW in projects, both in the ACL (Free Contracting Environment) and in the ACR (Regulated Contracting Environment), around 4,8 GW are already in operation, while 3,9 GW are under construction and another 35 GW have not yet started construction.

In addition, data updated by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) pointed out that the Brazil was the 4th country in the world which added the most photovoltaic capacity in 2021, with a new 5,7 GW.

The country also rose one position in the world ranking of solar sources, taking 13th place among nations with the highest installed capacity.
