This year alone, between January and May, more than 6 GW of photovoltaic solar energy plants were added, considering both centralized and distributed generation. With this, the source reached the mark of 43 GW of installed capacity in the country, equivalent to R$202 billion in investments and more than 1,3 million jobs created.

Second ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy), the technology already s for 18,2% of the Brazilian electricity matrix. Since 2012, business in the sector has generated more than R$62 billion in revenue for public coffers.

Considering DG alone, there are more than 29,2 GW of plants installed on rooftops, businesses and land, generating around R$143,4 billion in investments. In the centralized generation segment, large solar plants have more than 13,8 GW of power in the country, with around R$58,9 billion in accumulated investments.

According to Ronaldo Koloszuk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ABSOLAR, the growth of solar energy is a reflection of the popularization of the technology in Brazil, “both for consumers in their homes, businesses and rural properties and for the expansion of the National Interconnected System with larger plants.”

The photovoltaic sector has already prevented the emission of 52 million tons of CO2 in electricity generation. “In addition to accelerating the decarbonization of economic activities and helping to combat global warming, solar energy plays an increasingly strategic role in the competitiveness of productive sectors, relief in family budgets, energy independence and prosperity of nations,” said Rodrigo Sauaia, CEO of ABSOLAR.
