the volume of public asset transactions carried out in solar energy market more than tripled in Brazil in first half of 2024 compared to the same period last year.

Altogether, they were 28 operations recorded in the first six months of this year, against eight from January to June 2023. The data is part of the “M&A Bulletin”, released by greener this Thursday (25).

Of the 28 assets traded, 11 involved the purchase and sale of companies of the solar chain and others 17 were related to the acquisition of portfolios with photovoltaic plants distributed and centralized generation.

Second Márcio Takata, CEO of Greener, purchase and sale of solar assets in the country should accelerate even more so in the second half of 2024, with an even greater growth trend between 2025 and 2026.

“Currently, the market has more than 400 portfolios with distributed minigeneration which will undergo a consolidation process in the coming years, boosting the number of transactions,” he said.

In relation to the types of existing markets for buying and selling assets, the Greener study assesses that the Centralized generation shows promise due to the possibilities existing in the Free Energy Market.

Altogether, the portfolios of transacted solar plants totaled 64 projects and 2.386 MWp in the first six months of the year, a significant increase compared to the 1.621 MWp and 1.354 MWp in the first and second half of 2023, respectively.

Greener highlights that the business models such as self-production through matching should gain strength in the coming years, as they allow exemption from charges on energy tariffs for shareholders of the respective SPEs.

“The power in the 1st half of 2024 has already proven to be equivalent to 80% of that mapped throughout 2023 and exceeded that transacted in 12 by 2022%”, highlights the research and consultancy company”, highlights the consultancy.

in the market of distributed generation, in turn, were 286 MWp traded in the first half of 2024 from a portfolio with 90 solar plants combined. The numbers, in fact, easily sur the results computed for all other previous semesters analyzed by Greener.

“There is a significant increase in the number of plants transacted compared to previous years. A large part of the acquisitions were driven by companies in the investment sector, which see Brazil as a promising market”, highlights the company.

In relation to the assets involving the transaction of companies, the Greener survey identified that 66% of investing companies are energy generators, acquiring brands from other segments. The remaining 34% involve financial institutions and oil and gas corporations.

“With a very dynamic market, different from the quarter where investment was predominantly in energy managers, the 2nd quarter of 2024 showed a movement of diversification, highlighting some of the possible areas of activity with solar energy”, highlights Greener.
