CCEE: electricity consumption in Brazil grows 1,4% in the first half of the year

Electricity consumption in the country grew 1,4% in the first half of the year, reaching 66.760 average MW. According to CCEE (Electricity Trading Chamber), the result is a reflection of the good performance of the mining industry and the growth of commerce and services activities, even though the milder temperatures, especially those recorded in January and April, have led to a lower demand for the use of air conditioning equipment. conditioning.

O free energy market, where companies can choose their supplier, growth was 5,2%, driven by the accelerated pace of migrations. In the first half of the year alone, more than 3,3 new consumer units entered the segment.

O regulated environment, in turn, presented a reduction of 0,7%, caused by the growing presence of distributed micro and minigeneration, climatic factors and the volume of agents that moved to the free market.

Consumption by economic activity

Among the 15 sectors of the economy that purchase electricity on the free market, the CCEE found growth in eleven of them compared to the same period of the previous year.

The trade and extraction of metallic minerals stands out, driven by the increase in activities in supermarkets, with the cooling of inflation, and the favorable scenario for mineral exports. O sanitation sector also showed a significant rate of increase, attributed to the migration of large consumers in this segment to the free market.

Consumption by industry

In the regional assessment, the The biggest increases were concentrated in the North and Northeast regions, with emphasis on Maranhão and Pará. In both, the increase reflects the consumption of the metallurgical industries and climatic factors, and, in the case of Maranhão, the significant increase is also the result of the continuous resumption of production at an important plant in the aluminum.
