O Comerc Energia Group held, this Thursday (09), the inauguration event of the solar complex de Hélio Valgas, in Várzea da Palma (MG). According to the company, it is the fifth largest plant of the country, with 1,2 million photovoltaic modules installed, totaling 662 MWp.
The system is installed in a area de 1.154 hectares : , the equivalent of 1.650 football fields. With the addition of this asset to its portfolio, Comerc's solar centralized generation vertical increased its installed capacity to 1.178 MWp. Adding the wind generation capacity, they have 1.458 MW in total.
counting on a investment de $ 2 billion, Hélio Valgas already has almost all of its production capacity allocated to Liasa, a national company that is one of the largest producers of Metallic Silica in Latin America, and which seeks its energy transition through a more economical and sustainable energy source.
With its entirety energized since August, the system is still ramping up – increasing its productivity before reaching its generation peak – and in September it was already capable of generating 119 GWh.
“This is a plant that has cutting-edge technology and equipment, which takes Comerc’s renewable generation capacity to a new level. The implementation and efficient operation of renewable generation assets reinforces our commitment to the energy transition in the country”, stated André Dorf, CEO of Grupo Comerc Energia.
Dorf also highlighted that “our experience accumulated in other large solar projects, added to the quality of the equipment and the construction process, allowed an accelerated ramp-up in Hélio Valgas”.
“Along with the benefits of energy generation, the project generated, during its construction process, a total of 2 thousand jobs, and maintains other social projects active to the development of the local economy”, he highlighted.
The Comerc Energia Group, which this month reached 1.681 MW of operating capacity, combining centralized generation and distributed generation, has an additional 501 MW in implementation/development scheduled for 2024.
“In Brazil, which is a major global producer of renewable energy, we have to remain optimistic and continue building the country’s future in a sustainable way. Therefore, I believe that by investing in renewable energy in the country, we are on the right path, and I understand that there is no other better place for this type of investment than here”, stated Cristopher Vlavianos, CEO of Vibra.
For Vice-President Alckmin, who was also present at the inauguration, the world has three themes under discussion: food security, energy security and climate. “And in all three, Brazil is the main protagonist. In of energy, 85% of our matrix is renewable, and we are here in the fifth largest investment in solar energy in Brazil, and the whole world is committed, as we need to decarbonize”.
