The Secretary General of ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), Daniel Cardoso Danna, will take over as interim director in the vacancy that will be left by Ricardo Tili. The announcement was anticipated by Tili himself, amid the farewells of his term, which will end this Saturday (24). The ordinary session of the top management of the ANEEL this Tuesday (20) was his last in the role.

A PhD student in Economics at FGV, Danna holds a Master's degree in Public istration from IDP and a specialization in Regulatory Law from UnB, where he also graduated in Electrical Engineering. He ed the ANEEL in 2007 through a public tender, having worked in the areas of institutional relations, economic regulation, tariff management and istrative mediation. Between 2018 and 2023, he held the position of deputy secretary-general, having assumed the General Secretariat of the regulatory agency in November 2023.

A ANEEL has a general directorate and four directorships. Danna will be the second interim director, as will Ludimila Silva, who took office in January of this year. Since May 2024, a position for a full director at the agency has been open, following the departure of Hélvio Guerra. With the end of Ricardo Tili's term, pressure for the federal government to appoint a name is on the rise again, since the interim directorship lasts for six months – a period that would end in July for director Ludimila.

A known ime between the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, and the president of Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (who has been in office since his predecessor, Rodrigo Pacheco), is cited as the reason for the nominations not moving forward. It is up to the Senate to vet the government's nominees for regulatory agencies. This lack of understanding and the internal dispute over nominations will likely yield more chapters – and possibly lead to new interim appointments.
