The EDP Group has launched two units to explore the potential of green hydrogen and energy storage systems.
H2BU (H2 Business Unit) is the company's new arm for developing green hydrogen projects. The new unit will be led by Ana Quelhas, director of Energy Planning at the EDP Group.
The new EDP unit focuses on developing green hydrogen opportunities with the steel, chemical, refinery, cement and long-haul heavy transport industries.
According to the company, H2BU will increase the integration of green hydrogen into the group's portfolio in a strategic and transversal way and will promote investment in renewables. The main markets are the United States and Europe.
The unit dedicated to energy storage was created at EDPR NA and has the objective of reaching 5 GW of storage capacity in 1 years.
According to Miguel Stiwell de Andrade, CEO of EDP, the creation of the unit reinforces the company's efforts in energy transactions.
“The growing penetration of renewables increasingly requires integration with storage systems, such as batteries, to provide the necessary flexibility to the electrical system and thus boost the growth of renewables”, states the CEO.
The storage unit will be operated by EDP Renováveis in the United States and focuses on analyzing storage technology.
