The meeting of the Energy Transitions Working Group do G20 (ETWG), chaired by the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, ended last Friday (4), in Foz do Iguaçu (PR).
As a result, member countries reached a consensus to triple renewable energy generation capacity e double the average annual rate of improvement in global energy efficiency by 2030. It is worth noting that the ETWG has not signed a t commitment statement since 2021.
The final document sets out commitments that seek to increase energy security e accelerate the transition to clean, sustainable and inclusive sources.
“As the world’s largest economies, we have the resources, knowledge and capacity to lead this transition. But leadership requires more than words; it requires concrete and, above all, urgent actions. Only with cooperation, courage and a common vision will we be able to carry out this transformation in a fair and balanced way. We can no longer postpone the necessary decisions. With this, we can be proud and tell the world that this group has reached a consensus on issues that are crucial to the preservation of the planet,” emphasized Silveira.
Electricity matrix will expand by 7,8 GW this year
The group also recognized the importance of adopting different strategies to achieve the goal of tripling renewable generation capacity, such as increasing the flexibility and stability of electrical systems, the expansion of generation, modernization of energy infrastructure and better demand management.
Furthermore, the need to accelerate the development de energy storage technologies, both through Batteries how much for reversible hydroelectric plants.
