HCN (Hospital Estadual do Centro-Norte Goiano), in Uruaçu (GO), inaugurated last Monday (16) the first solar plant of the state health network of Goiás. The project, contemplated in 2023 by the public call of Equatorial Goiás, received an investment of R$ 998.423,59 and resulted in the installation of 300 photovoltaic s, capable of generating 330 MWh per year.
According to the government of the state of Goiás, the plant was developed with the aim of reducing the hospital's operating costs and promoting sustainability. The estimate is that the initiative will contribute to the reduction of around 1.000 tons of CO₂ (carbon dioxide) emissions per year, helping to preserve the environment.
The initiative, carried out within the scope of the PEE (Energy Efficiency Program) of Aneel (National Electric Energy Agency), also included equipment management and the replacement of light bulbs with more efficient models. According to HCN, it is the second public hospital in Brazil to implement real-time water and energy monitoring, in addition to adopting sustainable practices such as waste management, socio-environmental indicators and efficiency in the use of resources.
“The installation of this solar plant demonstrated the hospital’s commitment to adopting practices that not only save resources but also protect the environment, establishing a model for other public hospitals,” commented HCN’s healthcare director, João Batista da Cunha.
