The MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) launched, last Friday (8), the Public Consultation No. 179/2024, with the aim of discussing improvements to the PDE 2034 (Ten-Year Energy Plan 2034).

This document is essential to provide predictability to the market about the growth in energy demand and the expansion of the energy system. Contributions can be submitted until December 11, 2024.

Over the next 10 years, the installed capacity of the electricity grid is expected to grow by 35%, rising from 237 GW in 2024 to 320 GW in 2034.

During this period, the growth of renewable sources will remain constant, while there will be an increase in thermoelectric generation to reinforce energy security. The expectation is that the electricity matrix will maintain a 90% renewability rate by the end of the decade.

EPE predicts almost R$600 billion in investments in the electricity sector by 2034

O PDE also plans a strong investment in the expansion of the electricity transmission system, focusing on regional interconnections. The export capacity of the Northeast region is expected to reach 28 GW by 2034, while the import capacity of the South region is projected to reach 18 GW by 2036.

“The study also includes analyses on the production of low-carbon hydrogen, with an estimated accumulated demand of 35,9 GW by 2038. In addition, the plan foresees the growing impact of Data Centers on energy consumption, with a projected demand of 2,5 GW by 2037”, highlights the MME in a press release.
