A blackout – an interruption in the supply of electricity – left a large part of the state of Amazonas and municipalities in northwestern Pará without access to energy in the early hours of last Saturday (8).
According to ONS (National Electric System Operator), the blackout occurred at 00:02, when the two 500 kV Jurupari/Oriximiná transmission lines were automatically shut down during a storm, affecting approximately 1.400 MW of load.
The failure impacted the capital Manaus, its metropolitan region and cities such as Parintins, Itacoatiara and Presidente Figueiredo, as well as municipalities in Pará, such as Oriximiná, Óbidos and Monte Alegre.
Gradual recovery after the blackout
The ONS began normalizing the system at 00:18 and, by 01:55, had already coordinated the main actions to restore the network. However, the total restoration of power was only completed at 07:03, due to communication difficulties with substations and the need to deploy teams to the field.
The unavailability of remote controls at facilities of concessionaires Amazonas Energia, Energisa and Evoltz made it difficult to fully resume service. The ONS reported that he is still investigating the causes of the incident with the agents involved.
Amazonas Energia reported, through their networks, social that “the company has its teams working in the city and is waiting for the weather conditions to improve so that these areas can return to normal”.
