The State of Ceará has sured the mark of 14 thousand operational connections for self-generation of solar energy on rooftops and small plots of land, according to a survey recently released by ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy). This is a 40% increase compared to December last year, when there were 10 photovoltaic units installed in the region, according to the Canal Solar.
Currently, the state has 208,6 MW installed in homes, businesses, industries, rural properties and public buildings, which correspond to 3,5% of the entire Brazilian distributed photovoltaic energy park. In total, solar systems on rooftops and small plots of land are spread across 181 cities in Ceará, which represents 98,4% of the 184 municipalities in the region. Currently, there are approximately 18.418 electricity consumers who already benefit from a reduction in their electricity bills and greater autonomy and electrical security.
Since 2012, its own generation of solar energy has enabled Ceará to attract more than R$1 billion in investments, create more than 6 jobs and raise more than R$276,2 million for public coffers.
According to Jonas Becker, state coordinator of ABSOLAR In Ceará, the state is currently an important center for the development of solar energy in the country. “Photovoltaic technology represents enormous potential for sustainable, economic and social development for the people of Ceará, generating jobs and income, attracting private investment and collaborating in the fight against climate change,” he said.
