Sorocaba, one of the most populous municipalities in the State of São Paulo, with more than 700 thousand inhabitants, now has a new DG (distributed generation) plant, equipped with almost 10 thousand photovoltaic modules.

Installed in an area of more than 53 thousand square meters in the city's Technology Park, the unit has the capacity to generate 10 GWh of energy per year, enough to supply more than 3,4 thousand homes annually.

According to Grupo VA Soluções Sustentáveis, the company responsible for installing the plant in partnership with the City Hall, the plant will contribute to the reduction of 290 tons of CO₂ per year in the atmosphere.

This volume is equivalent to the emissions generated by approximately 100 cars over the course of a year or the planting of 2,1 native trees, according to estimates by the municipal government.

In addition to the positive environmental impact, the DG photovoltaic project promises to strengthen the region's economic development.

This is because, according to Marcelo Maia, technical director of Grupo VA Soluções Sustentáveis, in addition to reinforcing the city's energy infrastructure, the plant also has the potential to attract investments to the Technology Park, boosting the local economy and generating direct and indirect jobs.

“This photovoltaic plant is not just an infrastructure project, but a significant step towards the sustainable development of Sorocaba,” he said.

For the president of the Sorocaba Technology Park, Nelson Cancellara, the initiative represents a strategic opportunity to integrate the plant into research and innovation projects, placing the municipality at the forefront of the renewable energy sector.

“The Sorocaba Technology Park is also promoting innovation in this important aspect, which is energy generation, and adding the value of sustainability to its activities. In addition, it provides companies that are currently and will be installed in the Park with the opportunity to use this clean energy in their processes,” said Cancellara.

Sorocaba Technological Park

The Sorocaba Technology Park is an environment created to encourage research and the development of new technologies in the city. The space houses universities, research centers and companies focused on innovation.

Unlike a traditional industrial district, the space is not dedicated to large-scale production, but rather to the development of technological solutions, functioning as an R&D (research and development) hub.

On site, there is for patent registration, technology certification and access to academic and business knowledge networks.

The park also seeks to attract investment to Sorocaba, promoting interaction between the private sector, educational institutions and the public authorities.

With this, it aims to strengthen the region's innovation ecosystem, contributing to economic development and the competitiveness of companies operating in strategic sectors.
