Storm in the south of the country is expected to cause power outages

Disturbances to the energy distribution networks in PR and SC must be caused by winds of up to 60 km/h

This weekend, several cities in Paraná and Santa Catarina may experience fluctuations in the supply of electricity due to the forecast of rain, lightning and wind gusts of over 60 km/h.

According to the monitoring and alert system of Climatempo, a company specialized in meteorology, the disruptions to the energy distribution networks will occur due to a storm forecast in the region during the night of Saturday (6) and the early hours of Sunday (7).

“From the end of the afternoon and throughout the night, there is a warning of intense rain and thunderstorms for all regions of Santa Catarina, the west, southwest and south of Paraná and the extreme north of Rio Grande do Sul”, he informed. Climate weather Canal Solar.

In addition to the Climatempo alert, the Inmet (National Institute of Meteorology) issued a warning for hail in the region. The institute also warned about the risk of electricity cuts, damage to plantations and falling trees and flooding in Curitiba and the region and throughout almost all of Paraná.

This year, a similar storm left around 473 homes without power across the state of Paraná. Maringá and Curitiba were some of the most affected cities, losing electricity for hours.

The warnings issued serve as a warning to residents of the affected regions to prepare for the likely impacts on the supply of electricity, in addition to damage that may be caused to property.

Windstorm and insurance coverage in photovoltaic systems

According to electrical engineer Mateus Vinturini, who specializes in photovoltaic systems and energy storage and teaches the course Solar Energy Projects with Battery Storage, consumers who have an off-grid system will not suffer from power outages and fluctuations.

The expert also highlights that battery banks, very common for off-grid photovoltaic systems, are also becoming attractive in installations powered by the electrical grid, mainly for backup purposes (emergency power supply, when there is a grid failure) or for optimizing the use of electrical energy.

In his opinion, anyone who invested in an energy storage system should weather this storm without any losses in of energy supply.

“Whoever has storage will be more secure and comfortable during an event that can bring a lot of uncertainty about the availability of energy for a large region. Another important point is that those who have a hybrid system continue to take advantage of the solar even without the grid and can achieve a long period of autonomy if they manage the loads correctly”, highlights Vinturini.
