A UCB Power, a Brazilian multinational in the storage solutions segment, which also serves Latin America, will implement the first project in the country to be used sodium batteries protocols for energy storage in remote communities.
A chosen community was Tumbira, which is located in Iranduba (AM) and is two hours from Manaus, by boat.
O project will begin to be implemented in September and it is expected to be completed by the end of the year. The initiative includes the installation of 16 sodium batteries, 48 volts and 50 amps, with total capacity of 38,4 kWh.
Thirty families will be served by the initiative, around 140 riverside residents. The project was developed in partnership by UCB Power and (FAS) Fundação Amazônia Sustentável.
The stored energy will supply a municipal school, a health center and community leisure areas, serving families living in the community.
As sodium batteries that will be used in the community were presented at the event Intersolar South America in 2023. This will be the first practical application of the product in a remote region.
“In 2023, we present the technology of sodium batteries, which have emerged as a promising alternative to traditional batteries on the market”, explains Marcelo Rodrigues, VP of Sales and Innovation at UCB Power.
A installation will be done in the MIGDI model (Isolated Electricity Generation and Distribution Microsystem), a system that aims to generate electrical energy for collective service and is supplied exclusively through intermittent energy sources, such as solar.
The main components for this type of system are:
- Photovoltaic modules;
- Customized structure for fixing photovoltaic modules (dry or flooded area);
- LFP (Lithium Iron Phosphate) storage technology with flexible capacity;
- High-performance Hybrid Inverter;
- AC and DC protections;
- EMS (Energy Management System).
UCB Power presents new battery at Intersolar
The company will present at Intersolar South America, next week, the In Wall lithium battery, model 48 W 200 Ah, intended for residential and commercial use.
The product can be used in the model on-grid and offers greater autonomy in use. The battery has high energy density and compact design.
It is maintenance-free and has an intelligent management system, the BMS, which guarantees total safety and optimized performance and can be used for remote monitoring, in addition to being compatible with the main inverters on the market.
“In this edition of Intersolar, we will present innovative and technological solutions, which will the energy transition in a responsible and innovative way”, concludes Rodrigues.
The battery will be displayed at the distributors' stands: Aldo, Sofar, JNG, Viemmer and Dcomp.
Battery Specifications:
- Touchscreen display for easy inverter monitoring and selection;
- Compatible with the main inverters on the market;
- CAN and Modbus protocols (RS485);
- BMS with the main protection and alarm levels;
- Easy identification of events such as alarms, protections and balancing, through the display.
