Study of the ABSOLAR estimates benefits of distributed generation

Brazilian consumers have already invested more than R$8,4 billion in photovoltaic systems

Based on government data, the Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy (ABSOLAR) carried out an analysis that shows that for every R$1 invested in small and medium-sized photovoltaic systems, the sector returns more than R$3 in electrical, economic, social and environmental gains to the population.

The basis for the study was data on investments made in the area since 2012, considering government revenues and the generation of new jobs in the country, caused by the solar sector.

Distributed generation (DG) photovoltaic systems alleviate the operation of the Brazilian electrical matrix, reducing the use of thermoelectric and hydroelectric plants. Brazilian consumers have already invested more than R$8,4 billion in distributed generation photovoltaic systems, adding more than 1,9 GW to the Brazilian electrical system, spread over more than 70% of the Brazilian territory and generating more than 100 thousand jobs.

“It is important to highlight that the money saved on the electricity bill of solar energy consumers is reinvested in the economy and helps to boost the trade and services sectors, boosting local economic activity. It is surprising that the Ministry of Economy has not even done a single calculation on these and other benefits for our country’s economy. Who is interested in this type of incomplete calculation?”, asks Ronaldo Koloszuk, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ABSOLAR.

The entity defends the benefits of distributed solar photovoltaic generation and predicts that more than R$13,3 billion in benefits for all consumers in the sector by 2035. Among the benefits are gains from avoided energy, reduced losses and reduced hiring of new generation plants.
