With an investment of R$5 million, USPproClima will work on research focused on solar energy

Ambipar, in partnership with USP (University of São Paulo), inaugurated, this Thursday (12), the Center for Research and Innovation in Climate and Sustainability (USPproClima). 

The company will invest R$5 million over the next five years and will the educational institution in developing decarbonization initiatives so that it becomes carbon neutral by the end of 2025 – becoming one of the first universities in the world with this title.

USPproClima will have five research areas: Carbon Management and Nature-Based Solutions, Disaster Prevention, ESG, Circular Economy, as well as Solid Waste Management and Renewable Energy Generation. 

Among the technologies used are photovoltaic energy and the biodigester, an innovative system that transforms organic waste into energy, licensed for operation in several cities by Cetesb (Environmental Company of the State of São Paulo).

The project will be located on the university campus in São Paulo and will have among its advisors Izabella Teixeira, former Minister of the Environment and president of Ambipar's Global Sustainability Committee, as well as specialists, researchers and professors, who will work in partnership with the company to develop solutions that benefit society and the planet.

“The partnership between Ambipar and research centers at educational institutions is important to connect the demands of the environmental market, that is, the practical universe to researchers and vice versa,” commented Gabriel Estevam, corporate director of research, development and innovation at Ambipar.

“The objective is to create synergistic and agile ecosystems that promote economic development, technological competitiveness and sustainability,” highlighted Estevam.

We are combining our expertise in favor of sustainable innovation for research that can boost the global climate scenario,” highlighted Patrícia Iglecias, coordinator of USPproClima.
