The MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) published this Monday (6) changes to the Normative Ordinance GM/MME No. 96/2024, which establishes the guidelines for carrying out the auction that will contract more power for the Brazilian electrical system, in order to allow greater participation of existing thermoelectric plants.

The new publication in the DOU (Official Gazette of the Union) foresees that existing thermoelectric plants can compete for contracts for power delivery in 2028, 2029 and 2030, changing the text from last week that opened this possibility only to new ventures.

The new publication also extends the of some contracts offered at auction. According to the document, agreements for the delivery of thermoelectric power from 2025, 2026 and 2027 will now be valid for ten years, instead of seven.

For existing thermoelectric plants, the are also ten years, while agreements signed for new projects are for 15 years.

As reported by Canal Solar, the auction referred to in Normative Ordinance GM/MME No. 96/2024 is not the same competition that integrates storage systems, which will still have the notice published by the MME.
