ABS (Bahian Solar Energy Association) estimates that photovoltaic energy capacity in Bahia will increase from the current 2 GW to 27 GW in 2030, said the entity's president, Marcos Rêgo.
“Currently, the state has an installed capacity of 2,0 GW, distributed between large solar plants and small distributed generation systems on rooftops and land, and by 2030, it should reach an installed capacity of 27 GW, establishing the image of one of the main solar energy hubs in Brazil and the world,” highlighted the executive in a press release.
The economic conditions and good solar radiation put Bahia on the radar for investments in large photovoltaic plants and distributed generation systems.
“The state is emerging as one of the most promising for the development of the photovoltaic sector, with companies and consumers increasingly engaged in investing in sustainable and economically advantageous solutions,” said Marcos.
Despite the optimism, the association highlights as a point of attention the increase in import tax on solar s from 9,6% to 25%, a factor that could hinder the pace of technology development in the country.
“The tax increase is a huge setback and will have a negative impact on the sector, in addition to going against the global trend of favoring energy transition. The measure not only increases costs for businesspeople and consumers, but also jeopardizes the country’s competitiveness in the global clean energy market. At a time when Brazil has the potential to consolidate itself as a leader in the segment, it is essential that incentives are maintained,” Marcos points out.
According to the executive, the increase in the tax burden puts at risk the development of more than 280 photovoltaic projects across the country, with an expected investment of around R$97 billion.
