The Plenary of Legislative Assembly of Goiás approved, during a vote on the Agenda of the ordinary session this Wednesday (30), the bill no. 8216/21. The proposal, authored by deputy Virmondes Cruvinel (Citizenship), aims to establish the State Public Policy on Green Hydrogen.

In his justifications, the parliamentarian explains that the interest in the use of renewable energy is motivated by increased fear about the effects of global warming on the environment.

“To a large extent, the use of fossil fuels to generate electrical energy for use in the transport sector contributes to this situation and the exchange of these energy generation sources for less polluting sources is one of the main ways of responding to the problem”, highlighted.

The deputy also reinforced that the energy matrix of several countries has sought to move away from dependence on oil and other fossil fuels.

This occurs, in his view, through the adoption of research and development of alternatives that have been offering increasing efficiency as a result of technological evolution, such as solar and wind sources.

“To address the impact associated with the transport matrix, the option of electrifying the fleet is possible. So much so that several countries are setting a date to abolish cars powered by petroleum derivatives,” he said.

“With technological advances in recent years, new alternative sources of electrical energy generation have emerged around the world. This is the case of using hydrogen as a fuel for a variety of forms of energy”, added Cruvinel.

According to him, the IEA (International Energy Agency) even stated that the use of green hydrogen would help save around 830 million tons of C02 (carbon dioxide) per year, which would originate from the production of this gas, using fossil fuels as its source.

The matter needs to go through another phase of discussion and voting in plenary, before it can be sanctioned by Governor Ronaldo Caiado (UB).
