Brazil produced almost 70 thousand MWmed in the first months of this year and 94% of this electrical energy was generated by renewable sources. This is what a survey by the Electric Energy Trading Chamber – CCEE showed.

According to the Chamber, this is the highest level of participation of clean energy in the country's energy matrix in the last 10 years. The majority was generated by hydroelectric plants (77%), followed by wind plants (12%), solar plants (3%) and biomass (2%).

“We are reaching the end of the humid period with comfortable levels in the country's water reservoirs and with a good representation of alternative sources, which help to complement the energy supply”, assesses Rui Altieri, president of CCEE.

“It will be a sustainable year, in of gains for the environment, and much more comfortable from the point of view of security of supply for the population”, he highlighted.

The favorable scenario for hydro generation also allowed Brazil to export 1.445 MWmed to Argentina and Uruguay in the first quarter, a record volume in the history of energy negotiations with neighboring countries.

According to CCEE, a good portion was sent by the Turbinable Energy Vertidad mechanism – EVT, an operation recently launched with the of the Chamber to optimize the use of water resources.
