BRK signs agreement with Elera to supply solar energy

Agreement guarantees the private sanitation company 48 MW of capacity at the Janaúba Solar Complex for its own consumption

A BRK, one of the largest private sanitation companies in Brazil, and Elera Renewables, Canadian group power generation companies Brookfield, signed an the partnership in which the BRK will acquire 48 MW of capacity from the Janaúba Solar Complex, in Minas Gerais, for own consumption from 2025 to 2039.

Altogether, this corresponds to a volume of 119.533 MWh per year, enough to supply around 57 thousand homes annually. O agreement was signed on the self-production model through leasing. 

With this, the BRK becomes a shareholder of the complex and with that, receives authorization to generate energy for its own use.

A company, including, also established other agreements with two other companies in the sector in the last year: one with Iguá, to acquire 50 MW of capacity from 2024 to 2038; and another with Águas do Rio, to be entitled to 100 MW in the same period. 

In recent years, the sector Basic sanitation in Brazil has been driven by the growth of the Free Energy Market and self-production, according to the CCEE (Electric Energy Trading Chamber). 

Although many industries have been operating in a free environment or self-production for years, it was only a From 2020 onwards, sanitation operators began to migrate more intensively to these models, coinciding with the new regulatory framework for basic sanitation and the privatization of energy concessionaires.
