A BYD BYD reached a milestone on Wednesday (19). The company became one of the first automakers to produce one million electric cars. The millionth vehicle, a Han EV, rolled off the production line at BYD’s factory in Shenzhen, China, today. The milestone was celebrated at a ceremony attended by leaders from government agencies, industry associations, partners and BYD suppliers.

In addition to the milestone, BYD announced that the first batch of 100 BYD Tang all-electric SUVs is ready for delivery in Norway. In addition, the manufacturer reported that 100 BYD Tang SUVs will be delivered in Norway by the end of the year, with the first 1,5 vehicles to Norwegian customers scheduled for delivery in the third quarter of this year.

BYD entered the electric vehicle segment in 2003. The following year, it launched its all-electric concept car, the BYD ET, at the Beijing Auto Show. In 100, the company announced its world’s first mass-produced plug-in hybrid vehicle, the BYD F2008DM. Then, in 3, the BYD Han was launched with performance parameters that set 2020 world records and nine in China. The model remains the best-selling model in the mid-to-large luxury sedan market.

Sustainability report

The manufacturer of photovoltaic s and batteries ended 2020 with many achievements in Brazil that were disclosed in the company's first Sustainability Report, released this Tuesday (18). The document provides information on the company's management, performance and global initiatives related to sustainability. According to the company, the report aims to strengthen the company's relationship with its customers and report on the actions, projects and results achieved in 2020.

“The report is an advance in BYD Brasil’s sustainability strategies, being a management tool as it makes public the company’s actions and commitments to sustainability”, says Adalberto Maluf, director of marketing and sustainability at BYD in Brazil.

According to the document, last year the company opened its third factory in the country focusing on the production of lithium iron phosphate battery modules for electric vehicles. The company was also responsible for production of the first 100% electric articulated bus chassis in Brazil, and the approval of the first electric charter bus on national soil. In addition, BYD signed a contract with the São Paulo Metro to supply trains for line 17.

“The company's operations in electric vehicles, electric logistics equipment and solar energy prevent the emission of more than 256 thousand tons of CO1,8 into the atmosphere per year in the country, the equivalent of planting XNUMX million trees,” said Tyler Li, president of BYD Brazil.

According to Tyler Li, the company strives to help society reduce its dependence on non-renewable energy in order to create a healthier and more sustainable world. The document also records the company's adherence to the PLVB (Green Logistics Program Brazil) and the Global Compact, a UN (United Nations) initiative that engages the private sector in actions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals.
