Carrefour Property — the company responsible for managing the real estate assets of Grupo Carrefour Brasil — informed the market that it reduced energy consumption per square meter of the retail giant's stores and distribution centers by 15% in 2024.

The result — disclosed in the company's annual sustainability report — is the result of initiatives aimed at energy efficiency, such as the installation of solar plants, building automation and internal awareness actions.

Currently, three photovoltaic plants make up the group's energy infrastructure in Brazil: two already in operation — at Hiper Carrefour Canoas (RS) and Sam's Club Americana (SP) — and a third in the final phase of implementation at Hiper Carrefour Recife (PE), with start-up scheduled for the first half of this year.

By the end of 2025, the company intends to expand its solar generation structure with the installation of 22 more photovoltaic plants. The company's idea is to operate with 100% electricity from renewable sources by 2030, reducing the total energy consumption of its operations by 27,5%.

Building automation

In addition to solar energy, another pillar adopted by Carrefour was the adoption of technologies to control and optimize consumption. company modernized its systems automation building and developed its own remote monitoring solution for food refrigeration systems, currently installed in 212 stores.

The technology integrates smart sensors and analysis software that monitor performance in real time, identify anomalies and optimize equipment operation. The estimated savings are 21 MWh per year — enough energy to supply around 3,5 homes.
