Em March, the generation of electricity in the without (National Interconnected System) reached 77.221 MWmed (average megawatts), marking a increase of 1,4% compared to the same period of the previous year. Hydroelectric plants contributed 60.581 MWmed, representing an increase of 0,9%.

A centralized solar energy recorded a significant increase of 56,8%, totaling 3.174 MWmed in the third month of this year, compared to March 2023. data are from CCEE (Electric Energy Trading Chamber).

In the same period of analysis, the thermoelectric production grew 9,7%, reaching 6.214 MWmed, coming from various fuels, including nuclear (1.774 MWmed), natural gas (1.808 MWmed), biomass (1.441 MWmed), mineral coal (670 MWmed) and oil (179 MWmed).

On the other hand, wind generation faced a significant drop of 14,7%, reaching 7.231 MWmed, due to weaker winds in some regions of the country during the analyzed period.

Energy demand

In March 2024, electricity consumption in the SIN recorded an increase of 4,2% (73.690 MWmed), when compared to the same period of the previous year.

When carrying out analyzes by energy contracting environments, the Regulated Market increased by 6,1% (46.736 MWmed) and the Free Energy Market up 1,1% (26.954 MWmed). There was the migration of 1.494 new loads in March.

In the regional analysis, with the impact of higher temperatures and less rainfall compared to the same period in 2023 in almost the entire country, the biggest increases were in Acre (21,8%), Amazonas (17,8%), Tocantins ( 17,7%) and Mato Grosso (12,8%). Rio Grande do Sul, with a greater volume of rainfall in the period, was the only state that showed a drop (-6,2%).

In of activity, services (7,0%), wood, paper and cellulose (6,2%), sanitation (5,0%) and beverages (3,8%) showed the biggest growth, while vehicles (- 5,5%), textiles (-4,7%) and extraction of metallic minerals (-1,4%) recorded the biggest drops.
