Nine tariff sandbox projects are underway, approved by the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency). 

Tariff sandboxes are environments where new pricing models are tested. rates by energy distributors to develop new forms of charging that better suit the consumer profile.

To this end, the Agency opened the Call for Subsidies No. 27/2024, so that society can send its contribution through an electronic form available on the Agency's website. ANEEL, clicking here.

The sectoral paradox: cheap energy and expensive tariffs?

Check out the experimental projects:

New tariff modalities: is being applied by Energisa, started in July 2023, with 30,3 thousand participating consumers and an expected duration of 43 months.

In this modality, different amounts are charged for consumption throughout the day, there is a quarterly dynamic of adjustments every three months without impacts from tariff flags and prepaid plan, which allows the predictability and control of expenses.

Fixed billing: also offered by Energize, It started in August 2024, covers almost 6 thousand consumers and lasts 35 months.

Consumers of this model have the value fixed for up to 12 months with periodic adjustments, bringing predictability to energy costs.

Electric Vehicles: is being applied by copel. Starting in September 2023, it covers between 125 and 499 consumers, lasting 30 months.

In this model, a more suitable rate is established for those with electric vehicles and a cheaper rate during the early morning hours.

Multipart tariffs: within the competence of copel, there are 3,5 thousand consumers, since September 2024, the modality lasts 26 months.

In this area, more dynamic tariffs are implemented, with smart meters and component testing: fixed, on demand and by time range, in addition to the transition to issuing fully digital invoices.

Variable rates: are being applied by Equatorial Energia since September 2023, covering 3,5 thousand consumers and lasting 42 months.

In the model in question, rates vary throughout the days and months and the price is adjusted according to the volume of use of the distribution system at different times of the year.

Flexible rates: implemented by Enel since January 2024, it covers 5 thousand consumers and lasts 38 months.

Two tariffs are being tested to provide greater control over energy consumption: Flex Tariff, which varies according to the time of use, and Save and Earn Tariff, where consumers will be informed about the period and specific events that will allow them to save energy and receive discounts on their bill.

Fixed invoice: applied by Light, started in November 2024 with 10 thousand consumers over a period of 32 months.

In this model, the electricity bill comes with a fixed value, discounts on the tariff and cashback for residents of areas with greater economic and operational vulnerability.

Tariff modalities: this modality will still come into force from April 2025 onwards EDP ​​São Paulo, will cover 1,6 consumers and will last 31 months.

There will be three types of tariffs: those that vary throughout the day, based on demand, and demand tariffs with a fixed component per month.

Opening the market for low voltage: companies are included Cerbranorte (SC), Certel (SC), Sure (RS) e Copel Energy (RS), with 3,5 thousand consumers since September 2024, lasting 18 months.

Four licensees from Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul will test a new sales environment starting in January 2025.
