The month of October featured the EMSE (Climatempo National Climate Change Meeting), performed by Weather. The congress highlighted how important meteorological information is for the efficient operation of generation, transmission, distribution and commercialization companies

According to Vitor Hassan, head of the energy vertical at Climatempo, one of the biggest challenges facing humanity is the climate change, the consequences of which affect people and companies without distinction.

“Climatempo is committed to promoting a constructive and inspiring dialogue that contributes to a sustainable energy transition and generate a positive impact on our planet”, highlighted Vitor Hassan, head of the energy vertical at Climatempo.

According to Climatempo, the focus of the congress was to promote awareness and commitment of companies in the energy sector with actions to combat climate change.

Among the topics covered, discussions will include green hydrogen, energy storage, renewable sources, climate risk, UN global compact projects, biogas, fair energy transition, meteorological parameters and the impact on energy pricing, distribution and transmission ( and its meteorological challenges) and sustainability.

Climate change and its impact on energy sources

The first day began with a on 'the impact of climate change on energy sources' and included the participation of Josiane Palomino (Comerc Energia), Leidiana Mariani (Amplum Biogás), Luiz Carlos Pereira da Silva (Unicamp), Marina Mattar (Perspectives Communication & International Relations), Paloma Capistrano (UN/Brazil), Roberto Mendes ( Vitális Energia), Willians Bini and Patrícia Madeira from Climatempo.

According to Paloma Capistrano, environmental engineer and representative of the UN Global Compact in Brazil

The second topic discussed was the 'challenges in the energy transmission sector – Infrastructure and adaptation to climate risks', presented by Ana Carolina Ribeiro (Evoltz), André Luís Padovan and Sergio Antezana (Alupar), Felipe Sant'Anna (Concert Technologies) and Flavienne Carvalho (ISA CTEEP).

Sergio Antezana pointed out that, in the transmission segment, adverse weather conditions and fires, also related to the climate, were responsible for almost half of the causes of disruption in the SIN (National Interconnected System) in 2022, according to data from the ONS (National Operator of the system).

'Historical analysis of the rainfall regime, flows and level of reservoirs in Brazil and the impact on price' was also one of the topics covered, taught by

Alessandra Torres (ABRAPCH), Ariane Teixeira (Tradener), Daniele Ornelas (Eletrobras Furnas), Pedro Regoto (Climatempo) and Rodrigo Azambuja (CCEE).

Finally, the last subject was left to 'challenges in the energy distribution sector: how to ensure efficiency in the coming years', directed by Zilda Costa (UCB), Jenny Paola Gonzalez Perez, Lindemberg Reis (Abradee) and Sergio Rodrigo da Silva (EDP Brasil).

Lindemberg Reis, Planning and Market Intelligence Manager at Abradee, highlighted that In 2022, 47% of power supply interruptions were caused by environmental events, including strong winds and lightning strikes.

Based on data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), Reis pointed out that, in total, it is equivalent to 7,91 hours of the more than 17,7 hours interrupted. According to him, aMeteorological information is essential to make operational planning even more efficient.

Challenges and opportunities for PV parks

On the second day of the event, Gustavo Carvalho (Alfa Lavel) debated the topic 'innovation and new mechanisms in the face of the energy transition (green hydrogen, storage and others)', together with Luiz Carvalho and Vicente Camillo (Electy), Rafaell Araujo dos Santos (CTEEP) and Rafael Koga (Siemens).

'Challenges and opportunities for wind and solar farms in the face of climate change', was the second topic discussed, given by Bruno Macedo (Echoenergia), Bruno Kikumoto (Canal Solar), Gilca Parma (Climatempo) and Luís Marques (Comerc Energia).

Rafael Valim (Ecom Energia) coordinated the 'opening of the Free Energy Market', accompanied by Atamina Slodkowski (D3 Energias Renováveis), José Elesbão Costa Neto (Comerc Energia) and Lívia Godoy (ENGIE Brasil).

Finally, the theme 'Concerns and innovations in the future of the energy sector' it was debated by Ana Bonillha (Argo Energia), Giordana Flôr (GM), Helio Camargo Junios (ONS) and Luciano Ritter (Climatempo).
