Comerc Energia reached the milestone of 8 million I-RECs (International REC Standard) sold in the last 12 months, the highest volume ever recorded by the company.

The amount represents a fourfold increase compared to the previous year, contributing to the energy transition of its customers.

During this period, the sale of these certificates made it possible to neutralize approximately 2,2 million tons of CO₂, associated with the consumption of electrical energy in the operations of the companies served.

The initiative is part of Comerc Energia's Decarbonization Journey, which carries out an inventory of its clients' greenhouse gases, covering scopes 1, 2 and 3 of the GHG Protocol.

Based on the inventory, a decarbonization plan is structured adapted to the specific needs of each company, using the solutions available on the Comerc platform.

Since the launch of the initiative in 2022, more than 700 customers have already been impacted and received in their energy transition.

For companies seeking to reduce their scope 2 emissions, related to electricity consumption, Comerc recommends the acquisition of renewable energy certificates (I-RECs), which guarantee the traceability of the renewable origin in accordance with international standards.

Carbon credits are suggested as a complement, being applied only after the adoption of mitigation measures.

What are I-RECs?

I-RECs are certificates that prove the use of renewable energy in the production chain of companies of different sizes. Comerc Energia is authorized to carry out these transactions directly with the Totum Institute, the certifying entity responsible for the system in Brazil.

By purchasing I-RECs, companies and individuals can ensure that the electricity they consume comes from renewable sources, contributing to the reduction of carbon emissions and the achievement of environmental goals aligned with global sustainability commitments.
