Energy consumers will face a new charge on the electricity bill in the coming months. Last week, the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) defined the methodology for allocating the ERCAP (Power Charge for Capacity Reserve), created to remunerate the plants that win capacity auctions. This cost will be ed on to all consumers.

The first Capacity Reservation Auction took place in December 2021, contracting 17 projects totaling 4.632 MW of available power, with supply scheduled to begin on June 1, 2026.

ANEEL proposes R$37,17 billion for CDE in 2024

Among the winners is UTE Termopernambuco, ready to anticipate the operation, as requested by the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy). Therefore, the ANEEL anticipated the collection of ERCAP, ensuring that the charge to be paid by consumers from October to remunerate this plant.

The charge will be divided proportionally to the maximum net hourly consumption of each consumer during the month, i.e., the amount will be calculated based on the day and time of highest monthly consumption.

The contracting of the capacity reserve aims to ensure the continuity of the energy supply. Although the Government has promised a second auction for this year, experts believe that the deadline is insufficient for it to be held in 2024.
