The ONS (National System Operator) issued this week access opinions for the implementation of two data centers in the Northeast, more precisely in the state of Ceará, in the Pecém complex.
The first project is scheduled to be connected to the Pecém II 2027 kV Substation in January 230. The second data center, which will be connected to the Pecém III 500 kV Substation in the future, depends on the execution of a set of transmission works that have already been mapped, ensuring safety and systemic benefits for the region.
“ONS has been seeking safe solutions to meet access requests from large energy consumers. The growth of the data center sector is strategic for Brazil's economy, especially in the Northeast, due to the potential for attracting investments. Our commitment is to this process, respecting the procedures and ensuring the reliability of the SIN (National Interconnected System)”, stated the general director of ONS, Marcio Rea, in a press release.
According to the ONS, these two projects represent a significant burden on the region's electrical system. The sector is expected to expand rapidly in the coming years, driven by the growing demand for technology services, in addition to the need for data storage and processing.
