Demarest Advogados, one of the leading full-service law firms in Latin America, announced the arrival of Henrique Reis and Maria Beatriz Grella Vieira as new partners to strengthen its operations in the Energy area, with a focus on Regulatory and Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A).

With 15 years of experience in the electricity sector, Reis advises national and international clients on regulatory and contractual issues, in addition to structuring business models in the energy generation, distribution, transmission and commercialization segments.

Its activities include in auctions, free market, self-production and DG (distributed generation), in addition to representing companies before organizations such as ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) and MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy). The lawyer holds an LL.M. in Business Law from FGV (Getulio Vargas Foundation), a degree in Law from UFV and an MBA in Finance from Ibmec (Brazilian Institute of Capital Markets).

Maria Beatriz, with 17 years of experience in Corporate and M&A, the last eight dedicated to the electricity sector, advises companies and investors on mergers and acquisitions transactions, structuring self-production and distributed generation projects.

Graduated in Law from Universidade Presbiteriana Mackenzie, she has a postgraduate degree in Business istration from FGV, having completed part of her specialization at the University of Cologne, in .

“Our goal is to contribute to the expansion of the office’s energy sector, a sector that is booming and is expected to remain strong. The advancement of artificial intelligence and the growth of the data center market in Brazil, for example, are directly related to the increase in energy consumption, which should bring many opportunities in the transactional area,” said Maria Beatriz.

Reis also highlights the relevance of renewable energy and natural gas in the current scenario.

“While the expansion of renewables (wind and solar) puts Brazil in the spotlight on the international stage, it brings challenges due to the very characteristics of these energy sources,” pointed out the new Demarest partner.

“This scenario requires complex and specialized sector planning, in addition to opening doors to new storage technologies, creating greater demand for specialized advice, such as that provided by our team, both in participating in auctions and in ing clients in thermoelectric and hydroelectric projects,” he added.

In addition to the two new partners, Demarest’s Energy team also welcomes four new specialist lawyers: Luana Ferraz, Louise West, William Mendes and Arthur Plotz. Reis will be based in Belo Horizonte, alongside Arthur, while Maria Beatriz will work in the São Paulo office, accompanied by Luana, Louise and William.

According to Paulo Coelho da Rocha, managing partner at Demarest, the expansion of the Energy area is aligned with the firm's strategic planning, which aims to strengthen advisory services in priority sectors for the country's growth.

“The expectation of new auctions, the approval of specific regulations for 2025 and the potential for expansion of the energy segment reinforce the need to expand the area, completing the experience of the multidisciplinary team that works in the office, in addition to bringing proximity to the service of the BH region”, he commented.
