The year of 2024 can represent the change in the level of electric and hybrid vehicles among Brazilian consumers.

With new options on the market and a relative price parity with traditional combustion vehicles, many are already beginning to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of these vehicles with new technologies, especially the relationship cost-benefit of each.

Since December 2023, 100% electric cars lead sales of electrified vehicles light in the Brazilian market, suring plug-in hybrid registrations, which require external recharging of electricity, in addition to fuels, and conventional hybrids, which use only fossil fuels to generate energy.

A arrival of new models, from the second quarter of 2023, with more affordable prices, accelerated the growth curve of the share of electrified cars in the national market.

If until the beginning of 2023, the share of vehicles with these technologies was still 2,5% of total registrations in Brazil, in February 2024 the share of electrified vehicles rose to 7%.

According to ABVE (Brazilian Electric Vehicle Association), sales of 100% electric vehicles reached 19.310 units between January and December 2023, representing a notable increase of 56,20% compared to the same period of the previous year.

For 2024, the estimate is for even greater growth. In the first two months alone, 7.997 units of BEVs were ed in Brazil, not counting the BYD Dolphin Mini, officially launched in the country on February 28, 2024, with a price of R$115.800.

This is a value below the average ticket for 0 km cars in Brazil, of R$ 140.134, in September 2023, according to a study released by the consultancy Jato Dynamics. The expectation is that the compact from the Chinese brand will sur its older brother Dolphin GS in of sales in 2024.

With more electric vehicles circulating on the streets, and the strong audiovisual campaign of brands on radio and TV stations, consumer interest is also increasing and, consequently, the doubts of these potential buyers regarding the new technologies available on the market.

One of the main ones is: Is it worth opting for an electric vehicle instead of a combustion vehicle? To answer this question, the Canal VE, exclusive news portal on electric mobility in the Group Canal Solar, analyzed two cars from similar categories, in three daily use scenarios, to check the return on investment in an electric car.

To carry out the study, the vehicles considered were the Dolphin Mini, BYD's new entry-level car, with a sales price of R$115.800, and the VW Polo, the best-selling enger car in Brazil in the first two months of 2024, with 15.321 units , according to figures from Fenabrave (National Federation of Motor Vehicle Distribution), with a sales price of R$90.990.
