Electric power companies carried out 72 mergers and acquisitions operations throughout last year – an increase of more than 40% compared to 2023, when 51 movements of this nature were carried out in the Brazilian market.
The survey, carried out by KPMG with 43 sectors of the Brazilian economy, also indicates that this result is the highest in the last 20 years and that it is directly related to the intensification of the energy transition agenda of companies that make up the energy sector.
“The energy transition agenda on the agenda of these companies has led to an evolution in business models, which are increasingly digitalized, decarbonized and with new solutions and service offerings,” says li Jodas, partner at KPMG.

The executive also highlights that the growth in the volume of transactions and acquisitions in the sector is expected to remain high in the coming years, as “there is a large volume of assets belonging to medium-sized companies in the renewable sector, which would be strategic for the decarbonization agenda of large economic groups”, she highlighted.
