The country's electricity consumption was 44.803GWh in July 2024, a 6,6% growth compared to the same period last year, according to data released by Monthly Review of the Electric Energy Market da EPE (Energy Research Company).

A manufacturing ed the higher consumption of the entire historical series, with 16.769GWh, a rise of 6,8% compared to July 2023. This is the highest monthly growth rate since August 2021. 

The highest consumption comes from metallurgical with 242GWh; followed by metallic mineral extraction with 122 GWh; chemical sector with 119 GWh; food products with 116 GWh; pulp and paper with 99 GWh; rubber and plastic material with 58 GWh; metallic products with 57 GWh; non-metallic mineral products with 54 GWh; automotive with 31 GWh and textile with 16 GWh. The ten largest segments of the industrial sector together represent 914 GWh.

Although industries represented the greatest growth, homes and businesses also increased their consumption levels. 

Mainly influenced by the dry and hot climate in most of the country, residential consumption reached around 13.374GWh, a growth of 6,3%. The businesses reached about 7.742GWh, an increase in 6,1%.

O free market with 19.740GWh, ed for 44,1% of national electricity consumption in July, with 12,6% growth in consumption and 34,2% in the number of consumers, compared to July 2023. 

Already regulated market of distributors, with 25.062GWh, ed for 55,9% of national consumption in July, high of 2,4%. The number of consumer units increased by 1% in the period, despite the migration of consumers to the free market.

Rio Grande do Sul

The heavy rains and floods that hit the Rio Grande do Sul in May, continue to affect electricity consumption statistics. Consumption in the state grew 1,2% in July, compared to the same period in 2023, but the increase is lower than that recorded by other states in the region. 

O commercial sector, decreased by 4,6% of consumption, while the residential, expanded 4,9%, less than that observed in June. Lower temperatures in July 2024 contributed to the results. Consumption industrial had one increase of 3,6%, growing again after the decrease in May and June.
