The functioning of photovoltaic s and their efficiency in converting sunlight into electrical energy was the subject of one of the questions on the second day of the Enem (National High School Exam) 2024 exams.

The question addressed the use of graphene technology in photovoltaic modules as a way to improve energy generation on rainy days. The question was number 99 in the gray booklet; 101 in the yellow booklet; 123 in the green booklet; and 128 in the blue booklet.

According to Thiago Farias, project specialist at CS Consulting and engineer of the Canal Solar, the appearance of a question about solar energy in Enem only demonstrates that technology is already more than part of the daily lives of Brazilians.

“In addition to the specific application of the technological combination mentioned in the question, we are also witnessing, in a more systematic way, the integration of various sources of energy generation that complement each other, such as hybrid plants with photovoltaic and wind generators, in addition to the optimization of energy injection into the electrical grid, through the storage of electrical energy in batteries,” he said.

Enem

Established in 1998, with the aim of evaluating the academic performance of students at the end of basic education, Enem has improved its methodology since 2009 and began to be used as a mechanism for access to higher education.

Thus, the exam scores began to be used for access to Sisu (Unified Selection System) and ProUni (University for All Program), as well as in the selection processes of Portuguese institutions that have an agreement with Inep (National Institute of Studies and Educational Research Anísio Teixeira).

In addition, participants can also apply for student financing through government programs, such as Fiep (Student Financing Fund).

This year, the exam was again held over two days: November 3 and 10, respectively. The first had 45 language questions, 45 humanities questions, and a dissertative-argumentative essay. The second had 45 math questions and 45 natural science questions.
