The drop was possible thanks to the greater entry of clean sources of electrical energy generation into the SIN, stated MME

O MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) announced, this Wednesday (14), that the electricity generation in Brazil in 2023 reached the lower rate of carbon emission the last 11 years.

Last year, the without (National Interconnected System) produced, on average, around 38,5 kg of carbon dioxide per MWh generated. It is a indicator almost twice lower than in 2022, when the rate was 61,7 kg/MWh.

According to the MME, the fall was only possible thanks to the greater input of clean sources of electrical energy generation in the SIN, which helped to reduce the country's dependence on the activation of thermoelectric – a polluting and much more expensive source of energy.

Furthermore, the Ministry highlights that the excellent water conditions experienced last year, with higher-than-expected rainfall, helped to maintain reservoir levels at good levels throughout the year.

Altogether, the Brazil recorded the entry into commercial operation of 140 wind farms and 104 photovoltaic plants in 2023. The result: more than 93% of all electricity produced in the country last year came from renewable sources.
