Eternit has announced the suspension of its photovoltaic product line from the market, citing strong competition from low-cost solar modules imported from China as the main factor in decision making.
The company, which operates in the construction systems sector through six subsidiaries, maintained two of them focused on the solar energy segment: Eternit Solar and Tégula Solar.
In a statement released, the company reported that in recent years it has sought alternatives to become more competitive in the market, which includesu contributions of around R$50 million since 2020.
Despite its efforts, the company was unable to ensure that its photovoltaic sector demonstrated economic viability, leading to the discontinuation of the segment.
In addition to competitive pressure, Eternit pointed out that the financial impacts of the solar energy sector resulted in a loss for the company in the order of R$17,1 million in the last quarter of 2024.
Despite recording a net profit of R$8,3 million in the period, the company saw its results fall 90% compared to the same quarter in 2023.

Dear sirs,
We have a problem in the market. If Eternit stopped manufacturing these solar tiles, and according to the law, it is obliged to manufacture them for a certain period of time to those who used them.
But this is their solution too, for God's sake! From the beginning I said it wouldn't go ahead!
Unfortunately, unfair competition with products from China is the result. Taxes could be eliminated for national production and our products are certainly much superior.
M² without potential in capacity, knowing if others with greater potential could be replaced by the old ones, getting rid of the tiles and even old structures, non-universal cabling and not checking the system evolving. it would be like the "solar film" of such a mus…!
