In the last two years, about eight thousand agricultores Santa Catarina residents have started using solar energy systems on their rural properties, through programs such as Financia Agro SC and Pronampe Agro SC. In total, more than R$10,6 million was released in financing.
One of the beneficiaries was the couple Martinho and Eiracina Vicentini, from the city of Tijucas (SC). About six months ago, they installed a photovoltaic system on their property with funds from Financia Agro SC. The financed amount was R$15,2 thousand, with a five-year repayment term and no interest charged.
The property's main activity is the production of tangerines, but it also raises cattle and plants eucalyptus trees. Even though it has only been in use for a short time, the couple has already noticed the positive impacts of generating their own energy.
“The main benefit is the savings, we are not dependent on energy price fluctuations and we are producing clean energy. We used to pay around R$500,00, now I pay a fee of R$80,00, depending on consumption,” said Eiracina.
For the Secretary of State for Agriculture and Livestock, Carlos Chiodini, solar energy has established itself as a great ally for rural producers in Santa Catarina.
According to him, technology has modernized the agricultural sector, promoting savings, sustainability and greater energy autonomy in the field. “QWe want to encourage more people to produce their own energy,” he said.
Credit line
No Agro Finance SC, solar system financing lines are interest-free and can reach a 30% discount on installments paid on time, depending on the related activity. The payment term is up to five years, with a financing limit of R$50.

This is based on the famous Luz para Todos project launched decades ago by the former state-owned Eletrobras. There was an unjustifiable period of standstill and/or stagnation. The coordinator was the state-owned Furnas. I confess that I do not know how this important project is going. There was a problem that needed to be solved, which was the lack of technical and maintenance of solar generation systems. The handling of batteries and their disposal were some of the bottlenecks and problems identified. It is good news that there is a state that encourages small farmers to greatly increase their productivity. A country the size of ours and with a stupendous agricultural vocation must these small family farmers without restriction.
