The volume of contributions made by BNDES (National Bank for Economic and Social Development) in 2023 for financing renewable energy projects in Brazil increased by 62% compared to 2022, according to a survey released by the institution.

Over the past year, the bank invested more than R$19,6 billion in the segment, with 51 operations approved focusing on energy transition projects.

This volume represents around a third of the total investments made by the bank in 2023 in various sectors of the economy, such as transport, logistics, sanitation, among others.

At the beginning of the year, BNDES has already closed some agreements to finance new clean energy projects. One of them involves a R$75 million agreement with Comerc Eficiência, a company of the Comerc Energia Group that works with diagnosis and offering energy efficiency solutions.

Record

Brazil closed 2023 with the annual record for expansion of electricity generation. 10,3 GW of installed capacity was added throughout the national territory, 87% of which came from solar plants.

In the area of energy transmission, two auctions were held during the year for the construction of 10.655 km of lines. Investments total R$37,4 billion and the expectation is that 97 thousand direct and indirect jobs will be generated.
