O Brazil added a little more 182,8 thousand solar energy systems in the segment of GD (distributed generation) in first quarter of 2023, according to data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

This is the best performance in the history of the sector in the period, suring the record from 2022 – when 165 thousand connections were ed between January and March. In the first three months of 2023, states that installed the most Connections were: São Paulo (29,5 thousand); Rio Grande do Sul (23,7K) and Minas Gerais (20,1 thousand).

The Agency's data also shows that consumers residential were those who most installed the technology in 2023, with almost 80% of connections (146,2 thousand), an increase of 7,9% compared to the 135,5 thousand photovoltaic systems in the first quarter of 2022.

Among the power ranges, more than 99,6% of solar DG systems installed between January and March this year are of minigeneration: 182,2 thousand against 600 microgeneration.

Installed power

In addition to the number of ed connections, the first quarter of 2023 It is also the one with the highest volumes of installed power in the DG segment. In total, there were more than 1,85 GW in the first three months of the year.

This is an increase of 18,5% and 103,2% compared to the numbers for the first quarters of 2022 (1,56 GW) and 2021 (0,91 GW), respectively.

According to a Bruno BonfaCEO of Megacomm, the numbers presented only demonstrate the strength that solar energy has in Brazil.

“Unlike speculation and even some labels that the sector obtained during this important turn of the year, where, in general, we were exposed to changes in government, changes in legislation and economic scenarios, solar energy and Brazil continue to demonstrate its strength”, he commented.

For the executive, it is more than clear that GD solar will continue to expand, given that the record number of installations recorded in the first quarter of 2023 (compared to previous quarters) is solid and no less expected.

“It is up to our market to become even more sophisticated and raise the bar to not only preserve its expansion, but also deliver more quality to consumers. I often say that this is actually the first time that we have the opportunity to produce a commodity so significant even in our homes, something very related to the consumer’s energy independence”, highlighted Bonfá.
