The Government of Rio de Janeiro announced, this Tuesday (19), that it will make around R$80 million available to subsidize solar energy projects in Rio's municipalities.
The investments, which will be held in a fund structured by AgeRio (State Development Agency), will be used to benefit rural producers, schools, hospitals and popular homes.
According to governor Cláudio Castro (PL), the initiative aims to stimulate sustainable development in the State which, according to him, has the vocation to become a reference in the country's energy transition, in a more diversified and clean matrix.
"In addition to the environmental benefits, solar energy is cheap and generates savings, jobs and income for the population,” said Castro.
Since 2012, its own generation of solar energy has attracted almost R$2 million in investments to Rio de Janeiro, generating more than 10,2 jobs.
According to data from the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), updated on April 13, Rio de Janeiro is the seventh state in the country with the highest volume of installed power in DG (distributed generation) systems, with just over 409 MW.
The State also currently has around 56,1 thousand UCs (Consumer Units) receiving credits and more than 48,2 thousand photovoltaic plants installed in 100% of their municipalities. In other words, all 92 cities in Rio currently have at least one DG system installed.
