Gás Verde, one of the references in sustainable energy solutions and the largest producer of biomethane in Latin America, announced an agreement with Henkel, owner of the brands Cascola, Loctite, Pritt, Bonderite and Schwarzkopf Professional, promoting the reduction of emissions of gases that affect the thermal effect, which includes carbon dioxide and other harmful gases, from the fleet and operations of the multinational's factory in Brazil.

With a contracted volume of 1,8 million m³ of biomethane per year, the agreement marks a significant step towards sustainability in the chemical industry sector. One of Henkel's plants, located in Jundiaí, in the interior of São Paulo, will be 100% supplied by biomethane from the Gás Verde plant in São Paulo, in partnership with GBio.

The use of this clean fuel is designed to avoid the emission of approximately 3.096 tons of polluting gases, just by the industrial part of the contract, contributing significantly to all of Henkel's short-term targets, which include reducing absolute emissions of scopes 1 and 2 by 42%, and scope 3 by 30% by 2030, and long-term, with a 90% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions in all 3 scopes by 2045.

According to the company, the operation will begin in May 2025. “The contract with Henkel is very significant for us, a global reference and yet another industrial sector that adopts biomethane. We are free to supply biomethane that will not only fuel their operations, but also help to significantly reduce their carbon emissions,” said Marcel Jorand, CEO of Gás Verde.

“We are extremely proud to announce that our project not only benefits our operations, but also the planet as a whole. This initiative represents an important contribution to global businesses in reducing global warming by using biomethane from landfills to promote the use of sustainable fuels,” explained Fellipe Nascimento, responsible for the Henkel plant in Jundiaí.

Gás Verde has two plants operating in the country, one in Rio de Janeiro, at the Seropédica landfill, in the largest part of the country, and one in São Paulo. Together, they produce 160 thousand m³/day of biomethane.

The biomethane produced by the company already supplies large industries in different sectors, such as the steel company Ternium and the beverage manufacturer Ambev, located in Cachoeiras de Macacu, which has become a global reference for the beverage sector, as it is the first brewery powered 100% by biomethane.

In February, Gás Verde launched a complete solution for fleet decarbonization, the Zero Carbon Fleet, which includes the rental of brand new Scania trucks powered by biomethane and guaranteed supply of biofuel on the main routes in the Southeast, in addition to the complete maintenance plan: supplying biomethane to 0 gas stations in the state of Rio de Janeiro, since biomethane is interchangeable with natural gas.
