The Chamber of Deputies honored Hewerton Martins, president of the Free Solar Movement, with the Legislative Merit Medal, recognizing his important work in advancing solar energy in Brazil.

The ceremony took place on Wednesday (4), in the Plenary of the National Congress, in the Chamber of Deputies.

Federal deputy Beto Pereira (PSDB-MS) was responsible for the nomination, highlighting Martins' work since 2011 in initiatives that boosted the sector, created jobs and expanded access to clean energy in Brazil.

Martins is leading a movement that has expanded solar energy to more than 5.000 municipalities in Brazil. This initiative has contributed to the creation of more than 1,5 million jobs and boosted the growth of the sector in the country.

"It is an honor to be here today and to be one of the recipients of the Legislative Merit Medal, nominated by Congressman Beto Pereira. This ceremony, which begins soon, is a moment of recognition not only individually, but collectively," said Martins.

“This medal represents much more than a personal tribute. It symbolizes the efforts of all entrepreneurs who believe in and invest in the solar energy sector.”

“I am deeply grateful for the trust placed in me to legitimately, with dignity and honesty represent a sector that is so important for the sustainable future of our country,” he added.

“Many thanks to everyone who shares this fight and believes in the transformative power of solar energy. Together, we will continue to move forward,” he concluded.
