The IOU (Institute of Otorhinolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery), at Unicamp, in Campinas (SP), inaugurated a solar photovoltaic plant on its roof this Wednesday (1st). The initiative is part of the FL nos Hospitais program, a partnership between FL (Companhia Paulista de Força e Luz) and ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

162 405 Wp polycrystalline s were installed, in addition to a 60 kW Weg inverter. The plant has an installed capacity of 65,6 kWp, in addition to an annual generation capacity of 96 MWh. The investment, of R$ 290 thousand, was paid for by the distributor within the scope of the Energy Efficiency Program. ANEEL.

According to Luiz Carlos Pereira da Silva, professor at FEEC (Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering) and Coordinator of the Technical Chamber of the Energy Management Program on Unicamp Campuses, the plant should meet 5 to 10% of the hospital's consumption.

“It is an estimate, since the Institute is not yet operational. But we have already identified other locations in the building where more s can be installed to increase the IOU’s energy generation capacity,” Silva told Canal Solar.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the city's mayor, Dario Saadi, who spoke with the Canal Solar about the importance of the initiative. “From the city’s point of view, this is fantastic. We already have a partnership with FL, in this same program, with three UPAs, Hospital Ouro Verde and we are concluding at Hospital Mário Gatti”, he explained.

The mayor also announced that photovoltaic installations are also planned at the Padre Anchieta Metropolitan UPA and also at the Metropolitan Hospital, a space that will be transformed into the medical unit specializing in pediatric care, the Mário Gattinho Hospital.

“This means tremendous progress. We have already recorded almost 43% savings with solar energy”, said Saadi in an interview with Canal Solar, speaking about the records in the Campinas units that have already received the installation of the plants. “This, in addition to bringing benefits to the environment and reducing the city’s costs, will be invested in the city’s health”, added Saadi.

“The FL in Hospitals Program has played a very important role in ing public and philanthropic institutions, through the efficient and sustainable use of energy. This delivery, as well as the other 182 already completed, are a source of pride for the company and are in line with our sustainability plan”, highlighted Luis Henrique Ferreira Pinto, vice-president of regulated operations at FL Energia, who was also present at the inauguration .

According to Professor Luiz Carlos Pereira da Silva, Unicamp has several other solar s installed in Campus buildings, including the Hospital das Clínicas, and, together, the photovoltaic plants already generate 5% of the university's entire annual consumption.

“We managed to show that energy efficiency is profitable and we intend to increase our photovoltaic plant in three years”, he said, explaining the work of the Technical Chamber of the Energy Management Program. “In the entire Unicamp we will exceed 2 MW of photovoltaic generation by the middle of 2022. But our forecast is not to stop there, we will continue. It’s just the first step.”, he concludes.
