O HC-UFPE (Clinical Hospital of the Federal University of Pernambuco) will produce its own electrical energy with the aim of reverse the savings in other hospital actions. The photovoltaic plant should come into operation in beginning of September.

The installation, which has 241 photovoltaic modules, provides a savings of approximately R$19,5 per month (around R$230 thousand per year) on the energy bill.

The estimate is that the plant has the capacity to generate around 17.100 kWh, on average, per month. According to the institution, this generation is enough to supply 3,5% of HC-UFPE's entire monthly demand.

The project arose from the mobilization of the hospital community and was approved by popular vote of parliamentary amendment. The total investment was R$1.072.500, of which R$700 thousand came from the amendment and the remainder came from HC-UFPE's own resources (R$372,5 thousand).

Filipe Carrilho, superintendent of HC, thanks everyone who participated in the project engagement and highlights that the implementation of the photovoltaic plant at HC-UFPE is a milestone that reflects the power of the community towards a sustainable future.

“This achievement is a manifestation of how the union of efforts and in voting on parliamentary amendments can generate positive impacts”, he adds.

According to Marcus Silva, electrical engineer at HC's SIF (Physical Infrastructure Sector) and author of the initial study of the plant and contract manager, the installation of the equipment is part of the project to capture resources and strategic investments under the PDE (Sustainability) pillar. of the HC-UFPE Strategic Master Plan) 2021-2023.

The goal is use resources efficiently, aiming at the perpetuity and balance of the network. “The HC SIF will study other areas of the hospital that are susceptible to implementing new signs and raising financial resources”, says Maurício Oliveira, head of the SIF.
