After a challenging first half of 2023, which was impacted by a series of regulatory, economic and climate factors, the solar energy sector saw the record drop in solar prices lead to a gradual improvement in the distributed and centralized generation segments.
For 2024, this scenario remains optimistic and with growth prospects for projects hybrid and power plants floating solar energy, especially from Q2, in the second quarter of the year.
This is the assessment of Antônio Salgueiro, general manager of TBEA, a Chinese manufacturer of photovoltaic equipment, transformers and power quality equipment, which has been operating in Brazil for three years and promises to further increase investments in the country in 2024.
“As the rules for floating projects allow large-scale projects to be carried out, under the same DG rules, the solution ends up being quite effective,” he said.
“We can build a hundred floating plants together, in a very large park, divided into 1 MW transformers, for example, and work with very interesting tariffs”, he added.
Regarding energy storage solutions, Salgueiro said that not only TBEA, but the entire photovoltaic market, is intensifying investments in projects using batteries for 2024.
TBEA, for example, will intensify the sale of applications in BESS, due to the reduction in the price of batteries on the international market and the greater market interest in the solution, especially in Latin American countries such as Chile, Colombia and now Brazil.
“The BESS solution has always suffered from the issue of viability due to high Capex. But now, with the drop in battery prices, it’s starting to get interesting,” he said.
Partnership and investments
The general manager also told the Canal Solar that TBEA is in a moment of growth and consolidation of the brand in the country. He revealed that, at the end of this year alone, the manufacturer started to commission more than 750 MWac of inverters and substations in centralized generation plants.
Other plants such as solar power plants Nova Olinda, in the municipality of Ribeira do Piauí, around 290 km from Teresina (PI), have already been operating for more than six months with TBEA central inverters, with these being listed for three consecutive months among the best plants on the market in of power factor. capacity, in a total of 930 thousand solar s operating in an area of 690 hectares.

Furthermore, the executive commented that TBEA prepared itself in 2023 to achieve major goals in 2024. At Intersolar South America, the company signed agreements of around 3,5 GWac with companies such as Aurora, Elétron, Kroma and Próton.
The company is also making investments in its marketing, engineering and financial team, with the aim of ending the year as one of the three largest manufacturers in the inverter segment for centralized plants in Brazil.
“We are making the brand more robust and working on building after-sales, which for us is an essential step, especially in the inverter market,” he said.
“We are also bringing products that our competitors do not have, such as skids and transformers, manufactured by ourselves, where we have already sold more than 1,5 GWac of this type of equipment in Brazil”, concluded Salgueiro.
