On February 7, 2025, IEE-USP (Institute of Energy and Environment of USP) will hold a free seminar dedicated to smart mini-grids applied to isolated and interconnected systems, as part of the celebrations for the 30th anniversary of LSF-IEE/USP (Photovoltaic Systems Laboratory).

The event will be held at IEE-USP, Auditorium of Building C, located at Avenida Prof. Luciano Gualberto, 1289, São Paulo – SP. To participate, it is necessary to in advance by email at comunicaçã[email protected], with the subject: “Registration for the seminar on 07/02/2025”.

The seminar will bring together experts to discuss topics such as energy storage, second-life batteries and new technologies for smart grids.

The program will include technical lectures, business s, and an international session. Participants will also have the opportunity to visit the institute’s mini-grid facilities. This seminar is part of a series of bimonthly events planned by IEE-USP throughout 2025.

9:00 – 9:15: Opening.
Participants: Dr. Tércio Ambrizzi, Director of IEE-USP; Dr. Anne Kirsten, president of ABENS and Prof. Dr. Roberto Zilles of IEE-USP.

9:15 – 9:45: Storage systems for smart mini-grids: Challenges and opportunities.
Speaker: Prof. Dr. Marcelo Pinho Almeida from IEE-USP.

9:45 – 10:15: “Non-isolated hybrid (AC/DC) mini-grids”
Speaker: Dr. Pedro Ferreira Torres from IEE-USP.

10:15 – 10:45: Regulatory context for the insertion of storage in mini-grids and in Distributed Micro and Mini-Generation. 
Speaker: Dr. Gilberto Figueiredo Pinto Filho

10:45 am – 11:00 am: Coffee Break

11:00 – 12:30: Visit to the IEE mini-grid facilities.
Guides: Dr. Alex Renan Arrifano Manito from IEE/USP, and Dr. Pedro Ferreira Torres from IEE/USP.

12:30 – 13:00: Lunch break

13:30 pm – 15:00 pm: Solutions, equipment and configurations for application in smart grids, on-grid and off-grid.
Speakers: Eng. Ivan Sarturi; Dr. Ricardo S. Figueiredo (PHB); Dr. Roberto Valer (Huawei) and Eng. Levi Santos Cidral Júnior (WEG).

15:00 am – 15:15 am: Coffee Break

15:15 – 15:45: Discarded second-life Li batteries from electric vehicles for stationary electrical energy storage applications.
Speaker: Dr. Anne Kirsten (PHOTOVOLTAIC/UFSC).

15:45 pm – 16:15 pm: Mini-grids in the context of an unregulated area with an open structure for isolated systems: The GDEA experience in the Amazon.
Speaker: Dr. Wilson Negrão Macêdo from IEE-USP.

16:15 – 17:05: The University of Bristol/UK experience with Smart Mini-Grids.
Speaker: Prof. Dr. Samuel Williamson (Bristol University).

17:05 pm – 17:15 pm: Closing.
